Maritime Training & Education ::: Logistics Training & Degree Programs

Canada

The Canadian Coast Guard College (CCGC) is a maritime training college and Canadian Coast Guard facility located in Westmount, Nova Scotia—a suburb of the former city of Sydney in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

The CCGC core training program revolves around a 4-year Officer Cadet program that prepares navigation and engineering officers for service on Canadian Coast Guard ships. These cadets receive a Bachelor of Technology (Nautical Science) that is granted in collaboration with Cape Breton University. Other training programs include a 6-month program for Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officers that specializes in radiotelephony procedures for marine safety and vessel traffic services to co-ordinate and monitor vessel movements in Canada's territorial waters. Canadian Coast Guard officers that work in the nation's Joint Rescue Coordination Centres (JRCCs) also undertake advanced training at CCGC where a mock-up of a JRCC exists for simulation and training purposes. Additionally, various courses and training programs exist for specialized positions in CCG, including administrative courses, small vessel handling, search and rescue, and environmental response.

British Columbia

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (also referred to as BCIT), is a public polytechnic institution of higher education. The post-secondary institute has five campuses located in the Metro Vancouver region, with its main campus in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. There is also the Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond, the Marine Campus in the City of North Vancouver, Downtown campus in Vancouver, and Annacis Island Campus in Delta.[2] It is provincially chartered through legislation in the College and Institute Act.[3] The school operates as a vocational and technical school, offering apprenticeships for the skilled trades and diplomas and degrees in vocational education for skilled technicians and workers in professions such as engineering, accountancy, business administration, nursing, medicine, architecture, and law.

Marine Campus
Known previously as PMTI (the Pacific Marine Training Institute) it is now sometimes referred to as BMC (BCIT Marine Campus). The institute offers a variety of training in the marine field including cadet programs such as the four-year diploma in Nautical Sciences and the Marine Engineer training program. The campus is located in North Vancouver on the water a short distance from Lonsdale Quay. The school is open all year round except for major holidays.

Haïti

DaroStars Marine Training Institute is a private vocational training centre located in St-Marc city in Artibonite department, Haiti. Established in 2016 is the first maritime vocational training centre which is regionally accredited by Haitian Ports and Nautical Authority as knows as the Service Maritime et de Navigation d’Haïti (SEMANAH) in Haiti.

"DaroStars Marine Training Institute is a vocational training center established in the year of 2016 offering sixteen (16) weeks of training programs in nautical science and marine industry. This institute prepares students for entry level employment as a Deckhand in the maritime industry and is freely dedicated to dissemination of knowledge to young mariners who seek to enter the exciting maritime professional, as well as mariners seeking to advance that career. Upon completion of this program, the students will have the skills and knowledge to continue their career in the marine industry."

Carribean Maritime University
What is known today as the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) was established in 1980 as the Jamaica Maritime Training Institute (JMTI), the result of the collaborative effort of the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway (NORAD). The aim of the school at the time was to train Jamaican nationals to mann the Jamaica Merchant Marine (JMM) fleet of five ships.

Maine Maritime Academy is a public post-secondary college and nautical training institution with approximately 900 students, located in Castine in Hancock County, Maine, United States.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy is a regionally accredited, coeducational, state college offering undergraduate degrees in maritime-related fields, as well as graduate degrees and professional studies. Established in 1891, Mass Maritime is the second oldest state maritime academy in the United States

State University of New York Maritime College (SUNY Maritime College) is a maritime college located in the Bronx, New York, United States in historic Fort Schuyler on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Founded in 1874, the SUNY Maritime College was the first college of its kind (federally approved, offering commercial nautical instruction) to be founded in the United States and is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States.

Northeast Maritime Institute (also called NMI)- College of Maritime Science is a private, coeducational, maritime college offering an Associate in Applied Science in Nautical Science degree.[1] Established in 1981, Northeast Maritime Institute is the only private maritime college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.[2] The college is in the Town of Fairhaven, Massachusetts located in the United States and is within walking distance from the Acushnet River across from New Bedford Harbor.

Texas A&M University at Galveston Texas A&M University at Galveston is the source for all things “ocean-oriented” at Texas A&M University. TAMUG offers a unique blend of marine and maritime programs, including majors in science, business, engineering, liberal arts, and transportation.

Malta Island

IMO International Maritime Law Institute
The IMO International Maritime Law Institute was established under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization, a specialised agency of the United Nations. The Institute is an international centre for the training of specialists in maritime law. It also contributes to the development and dissemination of knowledge and expertise in international maritime law, with special reference to the international regulations and procedures for safety and efficiency of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution.

Established in 2001, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology is the country’s leading vocational education and training institution. Through the three Colleges, namely Foundation, Technical and University Colleges and six Institutes in Malta and the Gozo Campus, MCAST offers 180 full-time and over 300 part-time vocational courses ranging from certificates to Master degrees (MQF Level 1 to Level 7).

Linnaeus University (LNU) (Swedish: Linnéuniversitetet) is a state university in the Småland region of Sweden. It has two campuses, one in Växjö and one in Kalmar. Linnaeus University was established in 2010 by a merger of former Växjö University and Kalmar University (Högskolan i Kalmar), and has been named in honour of the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus.

Kalmar Maritime Academy

The World Maritime University WMU) in Malmö, Sweden, is a postgraduate maritime university founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. Established by an IMO Assembly Resolution in 1983, the aim of WMU is to further enhance the objectives and goals of IMO and IMO member states around the world through education, research, and capacity building to ensure safe, secure, and efficient shipping on clean oceans.

Panama

The International Maritime University of Panama (in Spanish: Universidad Marítima Internacional de Panamá, UMIP) UMIP is a maritime college in Panama City, Panama. It trains cadets to become merchant marine ships' officers. It is located in the Albrook area of Panama City, on the site of the former Albrook Air Force Base.
